CHRISTIAN DIOR

His father had big ambitions for his son. When it came time to train for his future, Christian, who loved architecture, suggested fine arts-but was sternly directed to a school for diplomats. The lure of Parisian arts and nightlife soon proved irresistible, however, and he drifted happily into the company of artists, writers, and painters. "There was an outcry," he later wrote. "Under no circumstances was I to join those bohemians!" Eventually his father would agree to fund an art gallery, which exhibited works by Picasso, Dal铆, and Cocteau.
